The eagerly anticipated return of the Tujunga Little League baseball field has hit a slight snag. Originally scheduled for artificial turf replacement following a recent theft, the installation will now be delayed by a week due to an incoming storm front. The grand re-opening, which promises to be a festive event, is now set for December 10th, with a representative from the Los Angeles Dodgers joining the celebration.
The decision to postpone was detailed in an official press release, which highlights the disappointment felt by both the AGS staff and the enthusiastic tee-ball players eager to get back on the field. Installation is now slated to begin on December 9th, with the re-opening ceremony scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on the 10th.
The artificial turf, designed specifically for the league’s youngest players aged four to six, was stolen on November 8th, leaving these little athletes without a safe space to play. The turf had been installed over a previously rocky area, making it crucial for providing a safe playing environment.
“It’s unfortunate that the rainy weather has delayed our plans for the installation,” said Dillon Georgian, co-owner of AGS. “We were all looking forward to getting the turf laid down as quickly as possible for the kids.”
Replacing the stolen turf poses a significant challenge for the league, as the cost of the new turf is equivalent to the entire revenue generated from player registrations for a full season.
Upon learning of the theft, AGS stepped in to assist. They are generously donating recycled artificial turf from a local college baseball field and will handle the installation. Additionally, AGS's trade partner will provide one year of disinfection and maintenance services at no cost, ensuring the field remains safe and well-kept for the young players.
The community eagerly awaits the new turf and the chance for the children to return to their beloved game, marking a hopeful new chapter for Tujunga Little League.
